Did You Know?
My Paws Need Claws
-
Declawing is equivalent to removing your fingers at the last knuckle.
-
Claws help cats stretch, balance and protect themselves!
-
Declawing can cause lifelong paw pain as well as back and hip pain.
-
Declawed cats are much more likely to become biters than clawed cats as their claws are naturally their "go-to" weapon.
-
Declawed cats often struggle to go back to the litter box after surgery as the digging can hurt their paws. Thus many cats associate the pain with the litter box itself and begin going to the bathroom outside the box.

How Can You Help?
Donate
As a non-profit organization, we rely solely on donations to operate. Rest assured though, When you donate to FHAA; 100% of your donation goes straight to the animals.
Responsibility Matters
Responsible pet ownership goes a long way! Know your pets needs before commiting to one and make sure you're ready to make the adjustments in your own life that may be required to accommodate them.
Share and Promote!
We know that not everyone is in a place to foster or adopt animals. We always need people to share our facebook posts, promote our fundraisers and participate in our events.
The Do's and Don'ts of Raising Kids with Pets
Raising Kids in homes with pets has numerous benefits and can create wonderful memories and lifelong friendships but there are some definite do's and don'ts to take into consideration.
1. Do teach the animal AND the child(ren) how to interact with each other. Many families focus on teaching the pets how to behave and they forget that the pet has feelings too and the child must also be taught to be respectful and kind to the animal.
2. Do give your pet individual attention. Especially if your pet was there before the child, it is important to maintain their role in the family to avoid jealousy or "acting out" behavior.
3. Do not allow your child to climb on, ride or pull on animals. Large dogs are notorious for being the victims of this in "cute" social media posts but even the most tolerant animal has a limit and warning signs are often missed.
4.Do react with positive reinforcement as it will always work better than negative attention. Yelling, hitting or otherwise mistreating the dog causes a lack of trust
It doesn't have to be one or the other...
Raising Dogs and Babies Together
Introducing your dog to a new baby is a nerve wracking time...but knowing what to do can smooth out the process for everyone involved,
1. Introduce the dog to the baby's scent; ideally this is done before the baby comes home with a blanket or outfit brought home from the hospital but it can also be done right before bringing the dog and baby together.
2. Stick to your dog's routine. Dogs thrive on routine so make sure they're still getting fed and walked at regular times.
3. Positive reinforcement will always work better than negative attention. Yelling, hitting or otherwise mistreating the dog causes a lack of trust
Our mission is to rescue.
Our dream is that one day we won't have to...
